A process is a versioned recipe for generating one kind of report: an ordered chain of AI steps (research, search, write), each with a versioned prompt and a model role. Labs ships a platform-global catalog of processes — tracking-plan-fast, business-case, customer-discovery and friends — the same catalog for every account, like the tool registry itself.
Versioning is append-only: saving a process writes a new revision and old ones are kept forever, so every deliverable can name exactly which process version and prompt versions produced it (its provenance). A generation run pins its process version at the start — a definition edit mid-run cannot change what the run executes.
Model names in a process are role aliases (gpt-4o, gemini-search), resolved against a live registry at run time, so a retired vendor model is repointed once, centrally, without touching any process.
